Cope
Plastics Recycling Program Continues Into Eleventh Year
Like
all responsible corporations, Cope Plastics is interested in solid
waste management that is both environmentally sound and economical.
In April 1994, Cope Plastics initiated a program to return plastic
trim of mixed types to firms buying plastic scrap.
From
the modest initial efforts to the present, the program has become
increasingly effective in reclaiming materials. Now, more than thirteen
different types of plastics are separated into Gaylord containers.
Sorting by grade without contamination has become a careful routine.
Some plastics can be returned to the original manufacturer for product
recycling. Other plastics are used as feedstock to produce new materials.
To
further solid waste management objectives, Cope Plastics has also
included cardboard waste in the program. It is estimated that nearly
1,000,000 lbs. of plastic and 200,000 lbs. of cardboard will be
recycled in 2005.
The
Cope Plastics solid waste management program, while emphasizing
recycling, is also concerned with source reduction as we produce
finished parts. The objective is to reduce a significant part of
the waste stream.
