Polycarbonate (PC)

Polycarbonate (PC)

Polycarbonate (PC) plastic is a naturally transparent amorphous thermoplastic material with extreme impact resistance, even when exposed to high or low temperatures. Available in a variety of colors, both opaque and translucent, light transmission is nearly the same as glass. When it comes to sheets, rods, and tubes, polycarbonates are easily machined and have excellent dimensional stability. Sheets of polycarbonate are flexible and bond well using solvent cement or adhesives, can be bent and thermoformed without cracking, and are simple to paint.

Although known for its durability, polycarbonate is very susceptible to scratching and marring, but can be coated with a clear abrasion-resistant layer for protection. Multi-layer/bullet-resistant and flame resistant/fire retardant options are also available. Fillers like glass may be added for increased strength and stability for structural applications. Polycarbonate comes in a machine grade as well, which is ideal when tight tolerances are required.

General Purpose Polycarbonate

This type of material, such as TUFFAK, is an unfilled polycarbonate grade that exhibits glass-like transparency and extreme toughness. This material has a polished surface and is often used in glazing applications. General-purpose polycarbonate features exceptional impact strength and superior dimensional stability, and is a great choice for windows, skylights, and greenhouses.
