Cope Plastics Awarded for Recycling, Education and Design Efforts

Cope Plastics, Inc. – Alton, IL is headed to Miami, FL for the 57th Annual International Association of Plastics Distribution Convention & Plastics Showcase. During the convention, Cope will be recognized for their efforts in recycling, education and design.

IAPD will award Cope with the Environmental Excellence Award for Best Recycling Program. Cope’s recycling efforts have grown immensely over the last few years. With the addition of the Cope Plastics Processing Center in Alton, IL, a crew of 3 employees has worked to keep over 1.5 million pounds of plastic out of landfills each year. The company is currently introducing a single-stream recycling program to help increase progress throughout the company. In 2012, Cope received the Environmental Excellence Award for Most Innovative Environmental Program.

Cope will also be awarded the Education Circle of Champions Award during this year’s expo. The IAPD Education Committee established the Education Circle of Champions in 2009 to acknowledge the innovative and exemplary educational initiatives by member firms. It is a special recognition for companies that emphasize continuing plastics education within their organization through the use of IAPD’s training and educational resources.

As a finalist in the IAPD Plastics Application Design Competition, Cope will be presenting their application to a Design Review Board in Miami this October. This competition presents a unique opportunity for companies, individuals and universities to showcase their innovative use of plastics in different applications and tell their stories on a scale that may not otherwise be available. Cope’s design demonstrates an application for a bearing designed to reduce operating costs and improve production efficiency at a large food products manufacturer.
