ALTON, IL — Cope Plastics, Inc. hosted their 16th annual charity golf fundraiser on Saturday, October 15th, 2022. Employees, friends, family, and business partners converged at Woodlands Golf Club to hit the greens for a great cause. Twenty-two teams of all ages and abilities attended the four-person scramble-style tournament that also included on-course contests. Participants were recognized for first place in A, B, and C Flights, closest to the pin and long drive.

Sponsors included Acropolis Technology Group | Alton Memorial Hospital | Altonized Federal Credit Union | AZ Polymers | Blue Horseshoe (Accenture) | Enterprise Fleet Services | Enviro-Master of St. Louis | Evolution Plastics | First Capitol Courier | Freer Auto Body and Accessories, INC. | Joe Silkwood | John Standefer: Allstate Insurance | Rick & Shannahan CPAs | RS Auto Repair | Sheppard, Morgan & Schwaab, Inc. | ShowMe Global Logistics | Sign Magic | Softchoice | Soladata | SSE, Inc. | The Daniel And Henry Co | UMB Bank | WorldNet | XPO.

A grand total of $14,800 was generated to benefit Friends of Kids With Cancer, a local organization devoted to enriching the daily lives of children undergoing treatment for cancer and blood-related diseases. The Cope team has supported this impactful organization for many years in providing educational, emotional, and recreational support to children and families fighting these diseases.

Jeff Maynard, VP of Administration and golf tournament coordinator, reflected “This has been a great event for the past 16 years and we look forward to many more years of gathering together to play golf, socialize and raise funds for Friends of Kids with Cancer.  The participation of Cope employees, friends, families, and business partners has been outstanding, and they continue to passionately support this event every year.  We are very blessed to have a Cope team that sees value in supporting our community and the various non-profits that we partner with.  The golf tournament is just one example of the many ways that our Cope team and our partners rally around worthy causes.”

This cause is very close to golfer Mike Lemons’ heart. His son sadly lost his battle with pediatric brain cancer in 2019. Friends of Kids With Cancer assisted when he was diagnosed, so his team donated back their winnings in Michael’s name.

“This event always brings out the best in our community. The support that is received by our players, vendors, and volunteers goes unmatched. Everyone selflessly contributes and the money raised here makes a real difference in the lives of children and families battling this dreadful disease. Our hope is through research and these donations, we can spread hope and encouragement and bring smiles to these precious faces. It is an honor and privilege to help,” added Dawn Selvog, long-time Cope employee and planning committee member.

Mike Avery’s foursome has affectionately become known as the ‘Colorful Team.’ Last year, they were just looking for reasons to get together and play golf, found Cope’s tournament, and signed up online. They wear typical old time golfer apparel of flashy knickers and argyle socks. For two years they have brought extra fun and generosity to this event.

As Carly Keshner, Cope’s Marketing Intern, summarized: “This year’s charity golf tournament was a blast! We had the most beautiful weather and a fantastic group of people both supporting and playing in the tournament. We are already looking forward to next year back at Woodlands on October 14, 2023 and have a lot more ideas in the works!”

In operation since 1994, The Woodlands Golf Club & Banquet Facility makes attendee satisfaction their top priority. They are located just 30 minutes from St. Louis, MO and very engrained in the local community, offering tournaments, outings, and special events. Their professional staff will assist with planning, organizing, and day-of coordination to ensure success. Book your next corporate, charity, or personal event at www.thewoodlandsgolfclub.com.
